Wakfu PvP vs Dofus PvP: Which One Should You Pick in 2026?
Wakfu and Dofus share a universe and turn-based combat, but their PvP barely looks alike. One is built on nation battles, the other on a ranked arena. Here is the comparison, point by point, so you can tell which one suits you.

Wakfu and Dofus come from the same studio, take place in the same world a thousand years apart, and both rely on action and movement points. You might think their PvP is similar. It is not: Wakfu turned its PvP into a nation war at fixed times, Dofus into a ranked arena open around the clock.
Here is the comparison, point by point, with our sources dated in the text.

Wakfu: nation PvP
Battlefields
Wakfu PvP goes through nations. Since update 1.57, most territories are split among the five nations, and some are put back up for grabs to be conquered on a battlefield, an organised fight in a separate dimension.
According to a specialist guide updated in June 2025:
- battlefields last one hour, on Saturday, at fixed times depending on the server, and two territories are contested each week;
- they run on adjusted level brackets, from 51-80 to 231-245;
- each side takes up to 140 players;
- there are three types: supply escort, flower capture (a capture-the-flag variant) and open fight;
- each player gets a participation grade, from A to D, which determines their experience, items, glory orbs and merit points. These points raise your rank within your nation, up to rank 1, reserved for the best player.
Conquered territories give bonuses to the nation that holds them. It is collective, political PvP, an extension of Wakfu’s identity, where players elect their governors.
Duels and arenas
Update 1.57 switched off free PvP in the open world: no more surprise aggression. Duels between players are still possible. The Ecaflipus arenas, reachable from Astrub, host friendly fights with no rewards, mostly used for tournaments.
Dofus: the ranked arena
The Kolossium
The heart of Dofus PvP is the Kolossium, a cross-server arena you can register for at any time, alone or in a group, from level 20. Three formats: 1v1 since 2017, 3v3 since the beginning, 2v2 since December 2023. Each mode has its own rating, which sets your league, from Bronze to Legend, and wins earn kolizetons. Since 2023, levels 20 to 199 and level 200 have separate queues.
We cover how it works in our guide to the Dofus Kolossium. Before it, Ankama devoted a whole game to tactical PvP, Dofus Arena, closed in 2014 and since rebuilt by fans: see our article on Dofus Arena.
Open-world PvP
Unlike Wakfu, Dofus kept aggression: a player aligned with Bonta or Brakmar, with PvP mode on, can attack a player of the opposite alignment and earn honour points. On top of that come duels, friendly and with nothing at stake, and fights over tax collectors and prisms between guilds and alliances. The full overview is in our article on Dofus PvP.
The combat itself: two different kinds of tactics
Beyond the modes, combat does not play the same way.
What is specific to Wakfu
- Facing. Every character looks in one direction. Hitting from the side adds 10% damage, from behind 25%, and both tackle and dodge depend on the angle too. In PvP, turning your back on an opponent is a mistake.
- Wakfu Points (WP). On top of AP and MP (6 and 3 base), a third resource, which each class regenerates in its own way and which does not refill at the start of the turn.
- Terrain. Height and map edges come into play, and range is not counted quite the same way as in Dofus.
- Time. 30 seconds to act each turn.
What is specific to Dofus
- AP and MP removal at the heart of PvP: depriving the opponent of their points is often worth more than hitting them.
- No angle bonus as in Wakfu: position matters mostly through distance, line of sight and obstacles.
- Nineteen classes, against eighteen in Wakfu, and a meta that shifts with every balance patch.
Neither is more “tactical” than the other. Wakfu adds layers (facing, WP, height); Dofus concentrates its finesse on controlling the opponent’s resources.
Which one to pick?
| If you enjoy… | Pick |
|---|---|
| Ranked competition, at any hour | Dofus and its Kolossium |
| The 1v1 duel | Dofus (1v1 Kolossium) |
| Big battles, faction spirit | Wakfu and its battlefields |
| Playing without a subscription | Wakfu |
| Surprise open-world PvP | Dofus (aggression) |
| A fixed weekly date with your community | Wakfu |
A word on access. In Wakfu, you need to join a nation, and the first battlefield bracket starts at level 51. In Dofus, the Kolossium opens from level 20, but the free account, limited to Incarnam and Astrub, has no access to faction PvP: in practice, regular PvP means subscribing.
Either way, you have to level and gear a character: MMORPG PvP has to be earned. If what draws you is only the combat, and the duel in particular, there is a third way.
The duel alone: Solwaris

Solwaris is our game: a turn-based 1v1 tactical duel, free, that opens in the browser with no download, and a free wallet is all you need to sign up. It takes neither Wakfu’s facing nor the big nation battles. It keeps head-to-head combat:
- 12 AP and 6 MP per turn, reset to full and never carried over;
- line of sight, pushes into walls (which deal collision damage), AP and MP removal, invisible traps;
- no levels, no gear: two players of the same class start on equal terms;
- leagues with an Elo rating per class, and an initiative bid before the first turn;
- brisk fights: 40 seconds per turn, no turn limit, until there is a winner.

Each of its 6 classes has a passive that bends a rule: the Arcanist hits harder from afar, the Shade sometimes dodges a spell’s damage, the Clockmaker regains AP by swapping places. The game is young and its community small: at off-peak hours the queue can stay empty for a while, and training against the AI, outside the leagues and with no effect on your rating, fills the wait.
To broaden your options, our selection of games like Wakfu compares ten tactical alternatives.
Wakfu, Dofus and their classes are trademarks of Ankama. Solwaris is an independent game, not affiliated with Ankama.

Frequently asked questions
How does PvP work in Wakfu?
Wakfu PvP goes through nations. A player who belongs to a nation can join battlefields, weekly fights over territories, organised by level bracket. Duels between players are still possible, and the Ecaflipus arenas host friendly fights and tournaments.
Is there open-world aggression in Wakfu PvP?
Not since update 1.57, which switched off free open-world PvP in favour of battlefields. Duels are still possible.
Which has the better PvP, Wakfu or Dofus?
It depends on what you want. Dofus offers a ranked arena, the Kolossium, in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3. Wakfu offers mass battles between nations, at fixed times. The first suits competitive players, the second players who enjoy territorial warfare.
Is Wakfu free for PvP?
Wakfu is listed as free-to-play on Steam, with paid options. Dofus requires a subscription for most of the game, and the free account has no access to faction PvP.
