Best Dofus 3 Class for Beginners: What Matters, and the Easiest Classes to Start With

Your first Dofus class will shape your first weeks in the game. Here are the criteria that matter for a beginner, the classes recent guides rate as the most accessible in Dofus 3, and a way to learn the basics of turn-based combat before you dive in.

You are starting Dofus 3 and the character creation screen offers you nineteen classes. The choice looks enormous, and every forum will tell you a different one is the best. Good news: for a beginner, the question is much simpler than it looks.

This article does not give you one more ranking. It gives you the criteria that matter when you start, the classes several recent guides consider accessible, and a way to learn the basics of turn-based combat.

The criteria that matter for a beginner

Guides to Dofus 3 agree on three criteria, and we add a fourth.

CriterionThe question to askWhy it matters early on
Self-sufficiencyCan the class handle monsters on its own?You will often play alone in your first weeks
Ease of useDo the spells do what they say, without complex setup?You are already learning the game; no need to learn an extra mechanic
VersatilityWill it stay useful in groups, and later on?Switching characters halfway costs a lot of time
FunDo you enjoy its style?It is the only criterion that will keep you playing

Another piece of advice keeps coming up: be wary of flashy videos. They show heavily geared characters, played by experts, in hand-picked situations. At level 10, your Iop will not look like the one in the video.

The Dofus 3 classes guides call accessible

We cross-checked three recent tier lists: Millenium’s for version 3.3 (updated in October 2025), Next Stage’s (May 2026) and Gamalive’s (February 2025). Here are the classes they describe as beginner-friendly, and why.

ClassStyleWhat the guides say
IopMelee, big damageVery easy to pick up (Millenium); recommended to new players and experts alike (Gamalive)
CraRangedPresented as the most accessible class, because it hits from a distance (Next Stage)
SacrierMelee, soaks damageVery accessible, fast progression (Millenium)
FecaProtection, armourA lot of effectiveness for little learning effort (Next Stage)
HuppermageRanged, elementsVery versatile; a beginner almost always finds a way out (Millenium)

These opinions are mostly about PvM, meaning progression against monsters. That is no accident: it is what you will do in your first weeks. And the tier lists say so themselves: they are indicative, and an update can change them. Our article on how to read a Dofus class tier list explains why.

The classes that are harder at first

No class is off-limits, but some require thinking one or two turns ahead:

  • the Xelor and the Enutrof, which win by removing AP or MP rather than by hitting;
  • the Pandawa, the Masqueraider, the Foggernaut and the Eliotrope, whose strength lies in positioning;
  • the Osamodas and the Sadida, which fight through their summons;
  • the Sram and the Rogue, which set up the ground before cashing in on it.

These are often the most satisfying classes once mastered. They are simply more frustrating when you are discovering the game, its zones and its monsters at the same time.

Choosing based on what you want to do next

  • You mostly want to progress alone, at your own pace: a sturdy, self-sufficient class like the Sacrier or the Feca.
  • You prefer staying at range and reading the map: the Cra, or the Huppermage if you like combos.
  • You want to hit things and see your mistakes quickly: the Iop.
  • You are aiming for PvP eventually: start with a simple class to learn, then look at what works in the current version. Dofus PvP rewards control, range and positioning more than the class itself.

Before paying anything, remember that the free account gives access to Incarnam and Astrub: enough to test a class over its first levels. We cover what the free account allows in our article on playing Dofus for free.

Three common beginner mistakes

  1. Switching class every three levels. Each class needs a few hours before it shows what it can do. Give it a chance.
  2. Copying a PvP tier list to level in PvM. A class that is fearsome in the Kolossium can be slow against monsters, and vice versa.
  3. Ignoring style. If you hate waiting for enemies to come to you, no ranged class will make you happy, even at the top of the rankings.

Learning turn-based combat before you dive in

Whatever the class, Dofus beginners stumble over the same things: counting their AP before moving, understanding line of sight, knowing where to end their turn. These reflexes come from fighting a lot, in short fights where you immediately see what you did wrong.

In Dofus, duels against a friend serve that purpose. Outside Dofus, a short tactical duel does the same job.

In Solwaris (not Dofus): every turn is played with AP and MP reset to full, never carried over.

Solwaris, to practise combat

Solwaris is a turn-based 1v1 tactical duel, free to play in the browser, with no sign-up. It uses the core mechanics you will find in Dofus: 12 AP and 6 MP per turn, reset to full every turn and never carried over; spells with a range, a cost and line of sight; pushes, AP and MP removal. There are no levels and no gear: a loss comes down to your decisions alone, which is ideal for learning.

Our own starting advice is actually close to that of the Dofus guides:

  • The Brute and the Warrior forgive mistakes: lots of hit points (980 and 820), spells that do what they say, a simple instruction: get into melee and stay there. The equivalent of a Sacrier or an Iop.
  • The Arcanist teaches the lesson of range: its damage grows with distance, and it dies quickly if caught. That is the Cra’s lesson.
  • The Shade, the Clockmaker and the Artificer are played by setting up the next turn: traps, swaps, charges. Save them for later, like the Sram, the Xelor or the Rogue.

Training against the AI lets you practise without touching your league rating, and a fight wraps up in a few minutes, with 40 seconds per turn at most. Let us be clear about the limits: Solwaris does not replace Dofus. No world to explore, no quests, no gear. And the community is still small: at off-peak hours the queue can stay empty for a while, and training against the AI fills the wait. But for learning to count your AP and read line of sight, it is a good training ground.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Dofus 3 class for beginners?

Recent guides most often name the Iop, the Cra, the Sacrier, the Feca and the Huppermage. They share being self-sufficient solo and easy to pick up. The best choice is still the one whose style you enjoy, because you will play it for a long time.

Which Dofus class should beginners avoid?

None is off-limits, but control, positioning and summoning classes such as the Xelor, the Pandawa or the Osamodas demand more planning ahead. They are more frustrating in your first hours.

Can you try Dofus 3 for free before choosing?

Yes. A free account gives access to Incarnam, Astrub and the areas around them, enough to test a class over its first levels before subscribing.

How do you learn Dofus turn-based combat?

By playing short fights where you can see your mistakes. Duels against a friend in Dofus, or duels in a game like Solwaris, which uses AP, MP and line of sight, let you practise with nothing at stake.
