The Best Crypto Games in 2026 That Are Actually Fun to Play
Most lists of crypto games rank tokens, not games. This one works the other way round: every pick is fun without the money, free to start with no NFT to buy, and still active in 2026. And every claim links back to a source.

Search for the best crypto games and you will mostly find lists ranked by token price or market cap. That tells you what traders like, not what is fun to play. This list is built for players. Every game here had to pass the same three tests, and we checked each one against its official page or a reliable report.
How we picked: three criteria
We left out a lot of well-known names. Some are closed, like Nyan Heroes, which shut down in 2025. Others still require a purchase to really play, or have moved their focus away from the game you remember: Axie Infinity stopped SLP rewards in its ranked mode in January 2026 and is putting its effort into a new MMO (see is Axie Infinity dead? for its full status). This is not a list of every crypto game, just the ones we would suggest to a friend who likes games.

The picks, one by one
Gods Unchained: the card game that stayed a card game
Gods Unchained is a free trading card game you can play in the browser. The cards can be held as NFTs and traded, but you do not need to buy any to play. It moved its NFTs to Immutable zkEVM in 2025 and released a new expansion, The Waking Plague, on June 16, 2026. If you like Hearthstone-style games, this is the most natural starting point.
Keep in mind: the GODS token has lost most of its value. Play it for the game, not for the token.
Illuvium: Arena: an autobattler you can play without owning anything
Illuvium: Arena is an eight-player autobattler: you build a team, place it, and watch it fight. The official FAQ says the game is completely free and that you can enjoy it without owning any creature NFTs. It is on PC through the Epic Games Store, and the studio was still shipping Arena patches in September 2026.
Keep in mind: owned creatures do give an edge in one mode, Leviathan, according to the same FAQ.
Splinterlands: a long-running card battler
Splinterlands has been around for years and is still updated: its release notes run to September 2026. The Frontier mode lets new players start for free. Ranked play needs a paid Spellbook, and rewards come in the SPS token, whose emissions decrease over time.
Keep in mind: to go beyond Frontier, you will have to pay.
Off the Grid: a big-budget shooter with optional blockchain
Off the Grid, by Gunzilla Games, is a free third-person battle royale for up to 60 players on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Its developers describe its NFT elements as optional, and the Steam version is simply a free shooter. It left early access on Steam in July 2025, and a full launch is planned for October 2026.
Keep in mind: Steam reviews are mixed, so try it before you get attached.
Amiko Legends: turn-based creature battles on Solana
Aurory became Amiko Legends in late 2025. It is a free roguelite RPG with turn-based combat and collectible creatures, and it includes Blitz Battles against other players. New players get a free starter creature, and rewards are paid weekly in the AURY token. It is on the Epic Games Store and on Aurory’s web portal.
Keep in mind: as with any token reward, the value of AURY is outside your control.
Sorare: fantasy sports, with free cards to start
Sorare is a fantasy sports game built around real football, basketball and baseball results. Entry-level competitions use free common cards; higher tiers need rarer NFT cards, which can get expensive. In October 2025, Sorare moved its cards to Solana, and it ran a free World Cup 2026 event.
Keep in mind: the free part is real, but the competitive top end is card-heavy and costly.
Solwaris: a free 1v1 tactics duel, with stakes only if you want them

We make Solwaris, so take this entry with that in mind, and judge it by the same three criteria. It is a 1v1 turn-based tactics game in the browser: 6 classes, 48 spells, 12 action points and 6 movement points a turn, with range, line of sight and hidden traps. Luck is kept small: mainly damage ranges on spells and critical hits, at 10%.
- Gameplay first: the full game, ranked leagues with an Elo rating per class, AI training, spectating and 2v2 are free; a free wallet creates your account, with no transaction.
- No mandatory NFT: there is no NFT, and the game’s one token, the Waris, is earned by playing, never needed to start and not tradable. Cosmetics lower the fee on winnings, but never change damage or range.
- Money, only if you want it: staked matches at 1, 5 or 10 USDC on Solana. Both players stake the same amount, and the winner takes the pot minus a 12.5% fee: 17.50 USDC on a 10 USDC duel. Details are on the economy page.
Keep in mind: Solwaris is young, the community is small, and at quiet hours the queue can stay empty, with training against the AI to fill the wait. A staked match can be lost, and you lose your stake when it is.
Which one should you try first?
- You like card games: start with Gods Unchained, then Splinterlands’ Frontier mode.
- You like strategy but not card collecting: Illuvium: Arena for autobattling, Solwaris for pure 1v1 tactics.
- You like shooters: Off the Grid for free play. For a real-money shooter on Solana, read our profile of BR1: INFINITE, which is still in playtest.
- You like sports: Sorare, with free cards.
- You want to play on a phone or a work laptop with nothing to install: browser games like Gods Unchained or Solwaris.
Before you connect a wallet
A good crypto game should never make you rush. Before you connect anything:
- Play the free version first. If it is not fun for free, money will not fix it.
- Read who holds your funds. A deposit into the game’s account is not the same as money that stays in your own wallet.
- Look for a buyable edge. If paying improves your odds of winning, it is pay-to-win.
- Never treat it as income. Tokens fall, stakes can be lost, and the rules on real-money games vary by country.

Game names belong to their respective owners. Solwaris is an independent game with no connection to the other studios listed. This article is not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best crypto game to play in 2026?
It depends on the genre you enjoy. Gods Unchained is a strong free card game, Illuvium Arena a free autobattler, Off the Grid a free battle royale, and Solwaris a free turn-based tactics duel in the browser. All of them can be played without buying an NFT.
Are there crypto games you can play for free?
Yes. Every game in this list can be started for free without buying an NFT, and several, such as Gods Unchained and Solwaris, run in a web browser. A wallet is mostly needed for the optional parts, such as trading or playing for stakes; Solwaris also uses a free one to create your account, with no transaction.
Can you make money playing crypto games?
Sometimes, but you should not count on it. Token rewards often lose value, and games with stakes between players mean you can lose as well as win. Treat any money in a game as optional, and never as income.
How do I know if a crypto game is legit?
Check whether it is fun without the money, whether you can start without buying a token or an NFT, whether the studio still ships updates, and where the rewards come from. If the only source of rewards is new players buying a token, be careful.
